Degrees of Inclusion drawings

Examining the history of international student involvement at Indiana University, Bloomington. The online exhibition Degrees of inclusion features photographs, handbooks, programs, evidencing their challenges and experiences at IU starting from the 19th century.

What immediately attracted me to these materials was the image of students reading under an umbrella in front of Franklin Hall, June 10, 1959. Starting with a simple line drawing which was subsequently duplicated. The drawing was collaged within different paper types and depicted objects creating an odd composition. When working with the photographic image of Takekuma Okada, I made an effort to retain more control and intension with the oil pastel drawing. Taking no longer than 30 minutes to at least attempt to capture his poise within the image.
