Featuring as part of the Lockdown Residency. Utah State Archives challenged me to create drawings based upon the photographic portraits of Salt Lake City firefighters c1900. Originally taken by the Salt Lake’s Shipler Commercial Photography studio, the records have been digitized and made available on the archive publicly available finding aids.

A total of two days production time, the drawings are significant evidence of progression within my practice. Using new materials in oil pastels, I focused on creating an impression of the individual depicted rather than attempting to be accurate / true to the photographic image. Oil pastels can create an incredible atmosphere, a depth, held on a weakly woven piece of paper.
