Drawing in Archive Spaces

An archive stores the memories of individuals, society and institutions. Each of us retains objects or records that evidences our existence and experiences. How do you store your archive? As an archivist, walking through environments of boxes filling shelves as tall as a London bus is fairly common sight. These are often isolated, locked environments, with only controlled permitted access to a few trusted custodians. They are intimate, still, wonderous spaces full of boxed mysteries. The drawing process is an exercise in patience and observation, creating still life compositions with objects that preserve the active energy of the past feels a contradiction.
